Summary: "The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) are in the process of revising their Standards of Proficiency for Registered Midwives and Standards of Pre-Registration Midwifery Programmes (NMC 2019a; NMC 2019b) and this text will be predicated on these new and revised standards that all students must demonstrate proficiency in at the point of registration. The midwife must have a detailed understanding of medicines administration along with the ability to demonstrate knowledge of pharmacology and the ability to recognise the effects of medicines. The midwife is required to apply knowledge of pharmacology to the care of women and their babies and may later be required to, demonstrate the ability to progress to a prescribing qualification following registration"-- Provided by publisher.
