Summary, etc. Breast cancer is the most common type of malignant cancer among women in Ireland. The present study drew on Lazarus and Folkman's (1984) transactional model to ensure that the search for meaning of "stress" and "coping" were based on each woman's appraisals. The research question that guided the interview was "Enduring breast cancer treatments what was the most salient stressor, and how did you cope with that stressor?"
